Pele, or Pelehonuamea, is an ancient Hawaiian goddess whose name means "she who shapes the sacred land." She is a goddess of fire and volcanoes who, in folklore, travels throughout the islands and is revered and respected by the people of the islands.
One of the many myths that go along with Pele have to do with the sacred lava found on the island. Those who remove or take home lava rocks are said to incur her wrath and suffer from bad luck.
