Finished Object - Jojo's Hat by Jodi Brown

Finished Object - Jojo's Hat by Jodi Brown

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of knitting podcasts, and an even bigger fan of Tracie and Jodi of the Grocery Girls. I discovered them on YouTube last year mid-pandemic and they feel like the cooler older sisters I always wanted.

Both sisters are knitwear designers and I've purchased several of their patterns but have not knit them until now. Side note: please tell me I'm not the only one who's an impulse pattern buyer and seldom pattern knitter.

When my family and I were planning our Upper Peninsula trip at the end of September, I knew I wanted a few hat projects to take along and Jojo's Hat (Ravelry link) seemed like the perfect pattern for car knitting. Jodi's pattern writing is clear and this pattern had a simple repeat that was easy to get in the groove with while being a passenger in our SUV.

For this hat, I used the recommended needle size and decided to hold double two different colors of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight. I purchased most of my palette yarn 8+ years ago and it's been sitting in my stash ever since, and rookie mistake, I got rid of the ball band a while ago. My best guess for colorways on these are Pennyroyal for the light purple and Urchin for the dark. For extra fun, I also added a strand of silk mohair from Rowan in Majestic, but I ran out of this color midway through the hat and substituted Lana Gatto in Khaki.

Doing three strands held together made the yarn thicker than intended, and this hat would have benefited from having sized up in needle size as this hat fits smaller than I would have preferred.
